TANESCO MD TWANGE CALLS FOR ADHERENCE TO DEADLINES IN STRATEGIC DAR ES SALAAM POWER GRID EXPANSION
The Managing Director of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Lazaro Twange, has conducted an inspection tour of critical power infrastructure projects in Dar es Salaam, issuing a strong mandate for their swift and punctual delivery. His assessment included the site of the newly constructed modern Mabibo Power Substation and the ongoing installation of the 220-kilovolt high-voltage transmission line linking Kimara–Ubungo–Mabibo to Ilala.
During his visit to the Mabibo Substation project on October 7, 2025, Mr. Twange noted that while the project has reached 70% completion, it must be finalized within the contractual timeframe.
“My colleagues, this is no small task. I urge you to work day and night to ensure timely completion. Last-minute pressure work is unacceptable, especially when the key reasons for executing this project are well known. There will be no justification for requesting an extension,” Mr. Twange asserted, emphasised the need for strict adherence to the contract.
Separately, the 16.5-kilometre transmission line project currently stands at 28.4% completion. Progress includes the successful construction of 13 out of 26 foundations along the section running from Ubungo to Ilala via Mabibo.
Once operational, the comprehensive upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of electricity transmission from the Kinyerezi power plant to Mabibo. This, in turn, will bolster the capacity of the Ubungo substation and dramatically improve electricity accessibility across several crucial areas of Dar es Salaam.
