TANZANIA LAUNCHES CONSTRUCTION OF MAHENGE’S GIANT KINYWE GRAPHITE MINE

 Tanzania’s Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Peter Mavunde (MP), has officially launched the construction of the Kinywe Graphite Mine in Mahenge, Ulanga District, Morogoro Region — a landmark project developed through an equity partnership between the Government of Tanzania (holding 16% ownership) and Black Rock Mining Limited (84%). Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Mavunde described the launch as a major milestone in advancing Tanzania’s strategic mining agenda, following directives by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to accelerate the implementation of key national projects. “This project is not merely about resource extraction — it is a powerful engine for development that will drive industrial growth, trade, employment, and community welfare across Mahenge,” said Minister Mavunde.   IAEA inaugurates newly constructed Nuclear Application Facilities in Seibersdorf, Austria The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania in Vienna, H.E. Naimi S.H. Aziz joined the IAEA Member States and Secretariat to the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Nuclear Application Facilities in Seibersdorf that was held on October 7, 2025 in Seibersdorf. The new state-of-the-art Centre brings the IAEA’s work to life, and shows how nuclear science helps tackle global challenges — from health to food and agriculture, to protecting oceans and water. The Centre brings the Agency’s mission of Atoms for Peace and Development to life for the public. This new milestone highlights how nuclear technology drives progress in energy, medicine, food security, and industry, as well as the Agency’s role in reducing the risk of nuclear weapons proliferation.

NGUNGA SOLAR POWER PROJECT HITS 78.5% COMPLETION — BOOSTING CLEAN ENERGY ACCESS AND CUTTING ELECTRICITY COSTS IN TANZANIA

  The Government has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Ngunga Solar Power Project in Talaga Ward, Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region, which has now reached 78.5% completion of its first phase. This strategic initiative is set to produce 50 megawatts (MW) during its first phase, which will be fed into the national grid to improve electricity access for communities and help reduce the cost of power. During a site inspection on October 6, 2025, Engineer Innocent Luoga, Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy, noted that the visit aimed to assess the project’s progress and its potential to lower electricity costs for Tanzanians. “In this first phase, the project will deliver 50 megawatts into the national grid, expanding electricity access and contributing to cost savings for households,” Commissioner Luoga said.
