ENGINEER MATIVILA COMMENDS PROGRESS OF CHUMBI–KIEGELE ROAD PROJECT

Rufiji, Pwani — The Deputy Secretary General at the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), in charge of infrastructure, Engineer Rogatus Mativila, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Chumbi–Kiegele road project following an inspection visit. The 1.2-kilometre asphalt road is currently nearing completion.

The project, implemented by TARURA in Rufiji District, Pwani Region, aims to enhance transportation and facilitate the movement of goods in the area.

“RAPCO CONSTRUCTION, the contractor entrusted with this work, has demonstrated commendable commitment by adhering to deadlines. I am pleased with the execution of this project and encourage the contractor to continue delivering the same level of professionalism and efficiency in future projects assigned by OR-TAMISEMI through TARURA,” Engineer Mativila remarked during the iinspection

He further emphasized that the government will maintain close oversight of such projects to ensure optimal value for money, urging contractors to uphold high standards of quality while meeting agreed timelines.

According to Engineer Ibrahim Kibasa, TARURA’s Regional Manager for Pwani, the project — valued at TZS 1.499 billion — is now 95 percent complete. Works include the installation of drainage channels and the erection of 18 streetlights along the road.

“The contractor has worked professionally and delivered on schedule. We believe this is an example of how Tanzanian firms can successfully represent our country by implementing projects that significantly benefit local communities,” said Kibasa.

Residents of Chumbi have welcomed the road as a transformative development, noting that prior conditions made travel and transport difficult. They say the new road will ease the movement of crops and livestock, stimulate trade, and improve access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
