BANK OF TANZANIA JOINS SADC REGULATORS TO HARMONISE NON-BANK FINANCIAL SECTOR RULES Deputy Governor Sauda Msemo leads the BoT delegation at the 48th CISNA General Meeting in Botswana, focusing on regional stability and microfinance expansion.

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) is participating in the 48th Annual General Meeting and specialized committee sessions of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), focusing on the supervision of insurance, financial markets, and non-bank financial institutions (CISNA).

The high-level gathering, held in Maun, Botswana, from October 5 to 10, 2025, brings together stakeholders from across SADC member states to deliberate on regulatory frameworks and strengthening the non-bank financial sector.

The BoT delegation is helmed by Ms. Sauda Msemo, Deputy Governor for Financial Sector Supervision and Stability.

The central bank holds membership in CISNA by virtue of its domestic mandate, which includes overseeing investments made by social security funds and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), notably microfinance service providers. The BoT formalized its role by signing a cooperation agreement on October 6, 2023.

The conference was officially inaugurated on Tuesday by the Vice President of Botswana, H.E. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, who lauded CISNA for its robust performance. He used the platform to urge member states to intensify collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening regional economic integration and development within SADC.

The Vice President stressed the imperative for CISNA members to formulate effective strategies designed to improve the economic well-being of citizens across the region. He also recognized the committee's instrumental contribution to advancing financial literacy and the expansion of vital microfinance services.

CISNA plays a pivotal role in harmonizing the regulatory frameworks governing non-bank financial services across SADC, a function critical to ensuring compliance with international standards established by global financial oversight bodies.
